Nest

Our nurture room offers support for children with complex needs who find accessing learning in a mainstream classroom challenging and often distressing.

Provision 

The Nest offers a range of opportunities for children to develop their communication, independence and build confidence and a sense of achievement in a bespoke, child centred environment.

Children are supported through a structured timetable and predictable routine.  We build strong relationships with both the children and their families to support them throughout their learning journey.

Children in The Nest gain skills such as listening, sharing and turn-taking which aim to reduce barriers to learning, therefore aiming to enable success back in the mainstream classroom

Aims 

• To create a safe, engaging and calm environment for pupils to learn

• To meet the needs of individual learners

• To build independence and confidence in children

• To develop social skills and communication

• To build strong relationships with families and ensure all families feel included and involved

• To provide a small-scale setting in which adults actively work towards enabling children's successful reintegration into their mainstream classroom

How do we do this?

• We keep strong routines, and daily timetables are predictable and familiar.

• We use visuals to support communication across the classroom and beyond.

• We take time to listen and understand that all behaviour is communication.

• We provide a rich environment which is tailored to learners needs through engaging activities and sensory rich experiences.

•  We create timetables with an emphasis on 'finishing' tasks and moving on independently.
